Congratulations 7th Ward Committeeman Murray on Election as 78th District Chair

marty7th Ward Committeeman Marty Murray, Jr. worked very hard to get a quorum together for Saturday’s reorganization meeting of the Missouri Democratic Party’s 78th District Legislative Committee. A majority of the Committee members appreciate his time and efforts coordinating this important meeting and we elected him to chair the organization.

Also elected were Bruce Franks, Jr. (9th Ward) to serve as Secretary and Megan Betts (5th Ward) to serve as Treasurer.

8th Ward Committeewoman Annie Rice was elected Vice-Chair but the position is again vacant due to residency. Committeewoman Rice’s ward lies, in part, in the 78th District but she herself resides in another House district. We will elect a Vice-Chair at the next meeting.

Missouri House and Missouri Senate legislative district committees exist under both Missouri Statute and Missouri Democratic Party By-Laws to nominate candidates to some special elections to fill vacancies. The district committees, comprised of the party committeemen and committeewoman in wards within a district, entirely or in part, serve as the primary during some special elections.

In addition to serving  as the primary for a special election, legislative district committees may raise and spend money by forming a political action committee and registering with the Missouri Ethics Commission; conduct meetings; register voters, and engage in all other election activity permitted by law.

You can find contact information, Meeting Minutes, information on weighted voting and more at the 78th Legislative District web pages here.
