UPDATE: 78th District Special Election

RasheenonBallotFriday’s Deadline has come and gone for November 5th Special Election Write-In Candidates to file with Missouri Secretary of State.

In the 78th District, 9th Ward Republican Committeeman Mark H. Comfort filed a campaign committee- Comfort ! -with Missouri Ethics Commission on October 2nd. He then filed Limited Activity for his 8 Days Before Election Campaign Finance Report.

But, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s website, Comfort did not file paperwork with Secretary of State to actually be counted as a Write in Candidate by Friday’s deadline.

RasheencityhallphotoCongratulations to Rasheen Aldridge, officially unopposed on the ballot or by write-in candidate, the only candidate without an opponent in the November 5th Special Election, the next 78th District State Representative.

At the August 22nd Deadline for political parties and Nonpartisan/Independent candidates to file for 78th District’s Special Election, the only candidate to file was 5th Ward Democratic Committeeman Rasheen Aldridge. The Republican, Green, Libertarian, and Constitution Parties could have submitted a nominee but did not. No one submitted petition signatures to get on the ballot as an Independent candidate. Less than 200 signatures were needed.

Aldridge defeated 7th Ward Committeeman Marty Murray Jr. for the nomination. Last year, Aldridge defeated Murray in his re-election bid for chairmanship of the 78th District Democratic Party Committee.

Absentee Voting is underway for the November 5th Special Election to fill the vacancy caused by resignation of 78th District State Rep. Bruce Franks, Jr.  In all, there are six Missouri House seats across the state with Special Elections that day.

State Rep Franks is working hard for the kids with House Resolution 405 to enable funding for mental health services for young people affected by violence.

Missouri Democratic Party Chair and Iraq Veteran Stephen Webber penned a heartfelt column this week for The St. Louis American about he and State Rep. Franks: Veterans of Iraq- and St. Louis motivated to change.

Also this week, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens appointed State Rep. Franks to his Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness.
