9:15 am Hearing on 2424 S 9th @ Victor, 7th Ward, Soulard: BigHen Brew dba Soulard Steelyard- 22% Drink and 22% Sunday Drink – Martin K. Hennessey, Mgr.

Soulard Steelyard is a luxury apartment complex by Whistler One, an Asprient related project, a troubling landlord.

The redevelopment is  a corporate welfare recipient: 10% tax abatement and a sales tax exemption on construction materials.

The project is next to Humboldt Elementary School.

BigHen Brew is an LLC organized by attorney William Scott “Bill” Richmond, Dallas, Texas, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s business entity database. It turns out Richmond also does stand up comedy, was raised in St. Louis and is a Mizzou graduate.

Missouri Department of Public Safety liquor license data is showing BigHen Brew as a dba for Tribeca, another Asprient luxury living corporate welfare recipient. The Missouri Secretary of State’s database also shows William Scott Richmond, Dallas, as organizer for Tribeca.

Within a block of the project are Good Luck Bar @ 2501 S 9th and D’s Place @ 900 Barton. Neither have received any corporate welfare.

This is the meeting that many of us wish had happened a long time ago. This is the project where officials were told 1-to-1 parking was not necessary because Millennials do not own cars. There was a rush to get this project approved without adequate input from neighbors. Then The Riverfront Times ran an eye-opener story about the developer.

Special thanks to Soulardian Lillian Thompson for all her tenacious efforts to get information on this project, bring changes, and get the developers and City to listen to residents.
